Power Shift 2011 lunch and learn

Thank you to all who attended the Power Shift lunch and learn!

Just before Earth Day, 36 University of Iowa students and one student from West High converged with 10,000 other students from across the country at Power Shift 2011 in Washington D.C. Students engaged in leadership and organizational skills development, discussed environmental issues and solutions, and on Monday, April 18, met on Capitol Hill with Iowa Representatives to discuss leadership and policy surrounding energy and environmental issues at the Federal level.

The UI Office of Sustainability hosted a lunch and learn last week to connect UI student Power Shifters with members of the University and Iowa City communities. This meeting was an incredible opportunity to share our story and discover how we might continue the momentum built at Power Shift by working with leaders in our own community. New ideas and partnerships were brought forth that will be sure to strengthen projects and campaigns to create positive social change on the grassroots level. We hope to remain united and engaged citizens with a common vision of preventing and adapting to Climate Change issues.

Thank you to all who attended the meeting and to those who made this trip possible. Power Shift and the lunch and learn were the inspiration that will help in the journey to create a sustainable future for all.
