Earth Month 2012: Beehive Design Collective feat. Thistle and Thorns
Artwork from the Beehive Design Collective
April 18, 2012 - 7:00 p.m. - Old Brick, corner of Market and Clinton Streets
UI Sierra Student Coalition
The Beehive Design Collective has the mission: "To cross-pollinate the grassroots, by creating collaborative, anti-copyright images that can be used as educational and organizing tools." The Bees are a group of all-volunteer artists that travel the country to share their artwork, which is a unique and brilliant medium by which to educate people on complex global issues such as "the true cost of coal," "genetically modified food," "dismantling monoculture," and "globalization." Art is seldom used to explain such complex issues, but it is quite effective, and the Bees have mastered it. At the event, all attendees will have a good time and learn about campus energy and coal, and our UI Beyond Coal campaign, as well as issues related to food sustainability. This event will also feature a fun folk music band, Thistle and Thorns, that is traveling with the Bees through the Midwest. Additionally, we plan to allow UI art students to display sustainable furniture during the event. This will be an all-around fun and education evening!
