Donate-don’t dump during move out! You can reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill and donate items that still have life in them to Goodwill.

Just look for the trucks and volunteers at Burge, Hillcrest and Mayflower from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 to Friday May 15 and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Most furniture, housewares and clothing in good condition are accepted; see the Move Out Donation Drive website for more information. The Crisis Center will also be collecting non-perishable food, unopened hygiene items and cleaning supplies in the lobby of each residence hall during move-out week.

This is the sixth year of residence halls diverting reusable items from the landfill. In 2014, more than 5,000 pounds of materials were donated or recycled, including futons, fridges, clothing, and food.

Volunteers are also needed to help accept items at the trucks. To sign up, go to http://bit.ly/UImoveout and add your name and department/organization to the Google Drive spreadsheet.
