Nonprofit organization pushes ´Green Tuesday´

November 22, 2011

While consumers next week will be having their minds and wallets set on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, a nonprofit organization is hoping they´ll also think about Green Tuesday.

Green America, which provides an open forum for socially and environmentally responsible businesses, is making the move to make every Tuesday after Thanksgiving a time when shoppers will make purchases that have an environmentally friendly angle, according to a news release.

On Nov. 29, GreenDeals.org will have offers from local and national online businesses, which are approved by Green America. The system is set up in a similar fashion as Groupon, a deal-of-the-day website that features discounted gift certificates.

About 20 products and coupons ranging from 30% to 50% off will be featured from Nov. 29 through Dec. 6, the organization said. Some of the items include jewelry made from recycled nuclear bomb equipment, an indoor mushroom garden kit and organic lip balm.
