Volunteers needed for waste audit Friday, April 16

April 13, 2010

Volunteers are wanted for participation in the Green D.R.E.A.M. Expo Waste Audit from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the courtyard outside Hardin Library and North of Boyd Tower on the University of Iowa health sciences campus.

In honor of Earth Month, volunteers wearing provided protective gear will sort a sampling of a day's worth of waste gathered on the health sciences campus and repurpose recyclable items. The educational event will help guide future recycling and waste reduction efforts on campus.

ECO Hawk, a student group led by UI College of Public Health students, is coordinating the activity. To sign up for a 30-minute or longer shift, email Amanda Thompson at amanda-thompson@uiowa.edu.

The audit will be held in cooperation with Student Physicians for Social Responsibility in the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Public Health, UI Office of Sustainability, UI Facilities Management, Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, City Carton Recycling, East Center Iowa Council for Governments, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Waste Exchange.

More information and a video clip can be found on the College of Public Health website.
