Summer Bird Banding

Summer Bird Banding promotional image

Come join us at Macbride Nature Recreation Area for a morning of bird banding as we study local breeding birds. We will begin at the Iowa Raptor Project parking area where you will be transported to the migration station to set up our mist nets which will help us secure birds for banding. Led by our federally and state licensed bird bander, you will be guided through the banding process and learn how to recognize and record the data collected for each bird we band. We will discuss how and why we band birds as well as the legal aspects of bird banding. In addition, you will learn how to safely hold and release banded birds, as well as how to identify the species that are breeding at Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Limited space is available.
