Communications Intern 

The Office of Sustainability and the Environment (OSE) is seeking to hire a communications intern. The OSE is committed to promoting and enhancing student engagement in education and research and efforts to make the UI campus and community more sustainable. The communications intern at the OSE strives to communicate events and promote the office’s initiatives through various outlets. The communications intern would have varying responsibilities within the OSE depending upon current projects and programs set by the Director and Program Managers.

Term:

  • Start date January 2026

Pay Rate:

  • $10.50/hour

Job Duties:

  • Assist in designing strategies to promote the goals of the OSE around student engagement, education, research and campus sustainability
  • Highlight and amplify sustainability across the University
  • Create and disseminate a monthly newsletter
  • Contribute content to the OSE website
  • Update social media regularly

Qualifications:

  • Current University of Iowa student
  • Available 5-15 hours per week, typically during normal business hours (8am-5pm)

Desired Skills and Interests:

  • Basic knowledge of sustainability concepts and UI’s sustainability practices
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (storytelling or journalism experience desired)
  • Graphic Design (Canva) and photography experience (video editing desired)
  • Photo editing experience
  • Evidence of Leadership in academic and/or community affairs
  • Self-starter with the ability to think critically and innovatively
  • Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented
  • Systems thinking approach to problem solving
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
