Professional Development & Mentorship Program Intern
TERM: Start date January 2026
PAY RATE: $10.50
HOURS: 5-8 hours per week during the fall and spring semester, up to 15 hours per week during summer session (if available)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Sustainability and the Environment (OSE) is seeking to hire an intern to co-lead and promote the Professional Growth & Mentorship Program (PG&MP). PG&MP seeks to assist students in finding a path to a career in sustainability by connecting undergraduates to mentors across campus involved in sustainability and the environment. The program helps in preparing students to join the next generation of leaders in sustainability-oriented fields.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in designing strategies to promote the goals of the PG&MP
- Facilitate mentor/mentee matches
- Strategize marketing and planning events for PG&MP
- Communication with PG&MP participants to foster continued engagement and participation in professional development events
- Participates in professional development and team building activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current University of Iowa student
- Available 5-15 hours per week, typically during normal business hours (8am-5pm)
Desired Skills and Interests:
- Basic knowledge of sustainability concepts and UI’s sustainability practices
- Evidence of Leadership in academic and/or community affairs
- Self-starter with the ability to think critically and innovatively
- Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented
- Systems thinking approach to problem solving
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
