Bee Campus Intern

TERM: Start date January 2026 

PAY RATE: $10.50

HOURS: 5-8 hours per week during the fall and spring semester, up to 15 hours per week during summer session (if available)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Office of Sustainability and the Environment (OSE) is seeking to hire an intern to assist with the University of Iowa’s commitment to protecting native pollinators through Bee Campus USA, an initiative of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. UI has been a Bee Campus since 2022 and seeks to increase habitat, provide education, and engage our community in working to protect pollinators in our area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in designing strategies to promote the goals of Bee Campus USA
  • Attend Bee Campus Committee meetings
  • Work closely with OSE staff on tasks to be completed relating to campus pollinator gardens, outreach, and engagement
  • Participates in professional development and team building activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current University of Iowa student
  • Available 5-15 hours per week, typically during normal business hours (8am-5pm)

  • Basic knowledge of sustainability concepts and UI’s sustainability practices
  • Evidence of Leadership in academic and/or community affairs
  • Self-starter with the ability to think critically and innovatively
  • Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented
  • Systems thinking approach to problem solving
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
