Once again, the University of Iowa International Programs is giving students the chance to spend the final three weeks of winter break in India, as part of an intensive, field-based study abroad program.

The International Development program in India offers nine sections in various cities across the country, three of which focus on sustainability and issues related to the environment. The following three courses fulfill the Certificate in Sustainability project requirement:

Since its inauguration, the program has accepted hundreds of student applicants from several different areas of study. The 2013-2014 winterim saw 79 students participate in five different courses. The program dates for the 2014-2015 session are Sat., Dec. 27, 2014 – Sat., Jan. 17, 2015. Applications are due Sept. 22.

All courses are conducted in English and taught by UI professors and local NGO representatives. While students will at times sit through lectures, the majority of the program requires hands-on learning. There will also be many cultural activities and excursions throughout the trip.

The cost for UI participants is $3,500 and $3,700 for those not attending the university. This does not include airfare, meals, a tourist visa, immunizations, nor other personal expenses. There are several scholarship and grant opportunities through the Study Abroad Office and financial aid is applicable.
