Know Tomorrow Kicks off Week Long Series of Events

Know Tomorrow, a student-led campaign to demand action on climate change, is hosting a series of events Sept. 28 to Oct. 2 at various locations on campus.
University of Iowa student environmental organizations are joining with students across the country in the Know Tomorrow climate action campaign in advance of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Paris, France. Know Tomorrow is a national campaign to promote the facts on climate change, and "to amplify the voices of the millennials speaking out on the defining issue of their lifetime."

Monday, Sept. 28

Lecture on Global Climate Change with Prof. H.S. Udaykumar. He is an IIHR research engineer and a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering who is seeking to solve major problems of sustainability in India.
Tuesday Sept. 29
7 p.m. 125 Trowbridge Hall
Showing of "Years of Living Dangerously: Dry Season" hosted by the Human Rights Student Collective. The "Years of Living Dangerously" series is produced by Showtime and highlights many of the contemporary issues facing the climate and this episode in particular Harrison Ford goes to Indonesia to investigate how the world's appetite for palm oil has inadvertently created one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases. Back in the U.S., Don Cheadle meets a climate scientist and Evangelical Christian, with a very different explanation for the Texas drought. And, Pulitzer Prize-winner Thomas L. Friedman travels to Syria, examining how climate change can be a stress point in a volatile political situation.

Write Your Representatives! Students are encouraged to write to their local elected officials about climate change and other issues of sustainability. The event is hosted by University of Iowa Democrats and League of Conservation Voters
Thursday Oct. 1
7 p.m. W55 Chemistry Building
"Merchants of Doubt" movie screening hosted by the University of Iowa Environmental Coalition. "Merchants of Doubt" analyses the pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities and intentionally misinform the public about pressing environmental issues.
Most Know Tomorrow events in the U.S. are being held Oct. 2, but UI students are holding their events during the week leading up to that date.
